Dr. Shaun Amos

Appointed Director of Choral Activities at Clayton College and State University at age 30, Dr. Shaun Amos has achieved recognition as conductor, teacher, and clinician.  While finishing his doctorate at the University of Alabama with Sandra Willetts, he received the University’s “Excellence in Teaching By A Doctoral Student” Award.  He also took second place at the first ACDA National Student Conducting Competition in San Antonio, and first place at the Southern Regional ACDA Student Conducting Competition in Knoxville.  Upon completion of the D.M.A., Dr. Amos accepted the post of Assistant Director of Choral Activities at San Jose State where he conducting the University Chorale, the San Jose Symphony Chorus, and was nominated for the Outstanding Professor award.  His duties at Clayton State include choral, instrumental, and operatic conducting as well as classroom teaching.  Under Dr. Amos' direction, The Clayton State Collegiate Chorale has sung at the 1998 ACDA Southern Regional Convention, the 1999 world premiere of the choreographed Poulenc Gloria with the Atlanta Ballet, and won the prestigious Gold Award for College and University choirs at MusicFest Canada in Toronto, Ontario.  Dr. Amos has studied conducting and performance practice with Dr. Dennis Shrock at the University of Oklahoma, as well as choral techniques with Dr. Charlene Archibeque at San Jose State University and Alix Bourbon in Toulouse, France.  A West Virginia native, Dr. Amos is now proud to call Atlanta home.

The performing chorus for the San Jose Symphony. Enrollment went from 83 to 118 under my leadership.  Major works included Verdi and Mozart Requiems, Vaughan Williams' Dona Nobis Pacem, Handel's Birthday Ode for Queen Anne, Vierne Missa Solemnis.
