And now for something completely different:

The English Experience

Explore the culture of England, past and present, in this new study abroad course for May, 2007.  History comes alive with England's ancient castles, cathedrals, and public buildings that stand as monuments to a time when the city was the center of the world’s largest empire. Today, historic London punctuates a modern city with renowned museums, art galleries, theaters and concert halls that make it a magnet for young people across Europe and the world.

A series of lectures by community leaders, informal discussions with local residents, and exciting field trips provide students with the opportunity to develop an appreciation of British culture and society. The themes cover such aspects of British society as politics, education, communication, race, family, and religion. Students will have the opportunity to:

·       Visit some of the most magnificent cathedrals in the world (St. Paul's, Salisbury, Westminster Abbey)

·       See a performance of Les Miserables in London's famed theater district

·       Observe a trial at Old Bailey, view the House of Commons in action, and tour the Tower of London

·       Tour historic Oxford University

·       Visit Stonehenge and the ancient city of Salisbury

·       Eat at historic pubs and a diverse array of ethnic restaurants

·       Visit with seniors at a drop-in center and have lunch with college students in London

·       Tour the former residence of Sigmund Freud and the final resting place of Karl Marx

·       Explore Chinatown , the Brixton African-Caribbean neighborhood, and the Brick Lane Indian neighborhood

·       See a Guttenberg Bible, the Magna Carta, and hand-written lyrics by the Beatles at the British Library
