TP 4.34

Given:

x0 = 0,  y0 = 0, x = 3.80 m  (assuming that the origin of your coordinate system is located at the level the ball is hit)

q = 34.0o

v0 = 14.0 m/s

Find:         (a) t    (b) y

Physics:    projectile motion

Solve:

v0x = v0 cosq = (14.0 m/s) cos(34.0o) = 11.60653 m/s

v0y = v0 sinq = (14.0 m/s) sin(34.0o) = 7.82870 m/s

x = x0 + v0x t

x = v0x t

t = x /v0x = (3.80 m)/(11.60653 m/s)  = 0.32740 s = 0.327 s

y = y0 + v0yt – ½ g t2

y = v0yt – ½ g t2 = (7.82870 m/s) (0.32740 s) - ½ (9.81 m/s2) (0.32740 s)2 = 2.04 m
