TP 4.23

Given:

x0 = 0,  y0 = 0, y = 0 (assuming that the origin of your coordinate system is located at the level the ball is thrown and caught

q = 35.0o

v0 = 17.0 m/s

Find:          (a) vx    (b) t

Physics:     projectile motion

Solve:

v0x = v0 cosq = (17.0 m/s) cos(35.0o) = 13.9 m/s

v0y = v0 sinq = (17.0 m/s) sin(35.0o) = 9.75 m/s

vx = v0x = 13.9 m/s

y = y0 + v0yt – ½ g t2

0 = 0 + v0yt – ½ g t2

0 = t(v0y – ½ g t)

v0y – ½ g t = 0

t = 2 v0y /g = 1.99 s
